Relational Database Management System (RDBMS)

A software product used to build and maintain relational databases. In a corporate information system, information is typically stored in a central location using an RDBMS. Various application programs (accounting, point-of-sale, inventory management, etc.) share the resources of the RDBMS and use it to store and manipulate data. Common Relational Database Management Systems include Oracle, Informix, Sybase SQL Server, and Microsoft SQL Server.
